Micro-unit Apartments Trend in Select Metros

Micro apartments are starting to take hold in select metros including San Francisco, Boston and New York City.  Typical configurations include 300 square feet, 9-foot ceilings, kitchens and baths, washers and dryers, and multi-purpose built-ins for storage and workspaces that can convert to sleeping areas.  In July, New York City launched a pilot program called adapt NYC to develop micro apartments of 275 to 300 square feet.  The general market is skeptical on micro units regarding the size of customer base interested. People and developers are waiting to see if it takes off.
