Renting Trends Turning the Tables on Tradition

Apartment accommodations reflective of renters' needs and desires are in demand! Renting trends are turning the tables on tradition. Today’s renter is thinking smaller in terms of space and cost. Smaller apartment living doesn’t mean missing out on amped-up amenities and conveniences. Many units include 9-foot ceilings, a washer/dryer, and multipurpose storage that often convert into a sleeping space.

Communal lounge and lobby break areas with casual furniture along with access to outdoor and rooftop green spaces are desirable. Well-wired apartment buildings with lighting-fast speeds stand out from the rest. Typical broadband speeds likely won't cut it. Renters will prefer to submit tenant applications, pay rent and submit maintenance requests online with only a few clicks. Other trends include connectivity stations in the lobby with access to social events and internal Craigslist to sell and buy furniture. Concierge services offering convenience will also have high impact. Security, safety and mobile check-in in systems will be the norm and expected.

Energy-efficient living is a big plus and environmental friendliness is becoming a key factor in deciding where to live. Other drivers of rental decisions go beyond the four walls of an apartment. Renters are looking for housing situated near the things they love to do. For many, a sense of community, place to work, play and live is truly important to modern apartment living.
